lampoonI was just reading this dope article on some of the most controversial magazine covers of all time. I’m gonna re-post a few of my faves. I don’t find them controversial as much as excellent pieces of art that helped sell the magazine. I’ll link the full article at the bottom so you can check it out for yourself…..That dog is kinda hilarious BTW.

Check out:

andywarholsoupThis was well ahead of it’s time, in1969 (yay rhymes).

playboy-1971I LOVE THIS COVER. It also reminds me of Dimitri from Paris (one of my fave records too)

hitlermanofyearKinda touchy/disturbing….apparently Time made Hitler “man of the year”. The cover featured an elaborate illustration of Hitler playing “his hymn of hate in a desecrated cathedral while victims dangle on a St. Catherine’s wheel while the Nazi hierarchy looks on.” Baron Rudolph Charles von Ripper was a Catholic that fled Hitler’s Germany, and the artist of this disturbing piece. By 1938, Hitler had firmly seized power in Germany, taken over Austria and Czechoslovakia, and had been given a free hand in Eastern Europe by the English prime minister of the time, Neville Chamberlain. Time has had to defend this choice throughout history stating that the “Man of the Year” was a title bestowed on the person who had most influenced events of the previous year….hmmmmmmmm

newyorkersillMemorial for the Twin Towers….black on black….

myhumpsEven camels don’t like it from behind unexpectedly….

goddeadThis reflected a 60’s movement, and apparently pissed everyone off. BUT COME ON – why does everyone have to be so sensitive>??? How can God be dead?….he created you!!

faywraycoverThis cover was deemed as RACIST because it portrayed Lebron James to be “King Kong-ish” or something, which is totally ridiculous. First of all, he was probably all “I look so SCARY and AWESOME’ when he saw the proofs, and second of all, King Kong doesn’t wear sneakers!…sheesh….

Anywayz! I hope you enjoyed some of my picks.

Cruise on over to the full article right here for more examples of why society can be too sensitive:
