“The Wilhelm scream is a frequently-used film and television stock sound effect first used in 1951 for the film Distant Drums. The effect gained new popularity (its use often becoming an in-joke) after it was used in Star Wars and many other blockbuster films as well as television programs and video games. The scream is often used when someone is falling to his death from great height. ”
I wonder if the dude who started it all gets royalties?
Why do all new movies with CG kinda look shitty. I mean, maybe it’s just me, but the T-REX and Raptors in the JP movie look way more realistic than new movies supposedly featuring “cutting edge” special effects.
Maybe it’s just because it was all the way back in 94 and my young mind was more easily swayed, but it seems like CG has downgraded substantially from the pressures it used to put on itself.
Take District 9 for example. I thought this movie was extremely enjoyable and really well done, but it’s undeniable that some parts just looked FAKE.
Actually…….upon further pondering District 9 had pretty excellent special effects.
SO – Then what about Spiderman…he looked so fake swinging trough the city in practically every movie.
Due to my lack of concrete evidence, I’m just going to say that I fondly remember back in the 80’s when the film makers had to create their own animatronic wonders in JIM HENSON’S CREATURE SHOP.
They were the same geniuses who created David Bowie’s “package” in Labyrinth.
But does anyone remember when the T-REX ATE THE GOAT?
POINT BREAK is widely considered one of the best Action Films EVER MADE.
It stars the always unpredictable Keanu Reeves as cop turned undercover surfer JONNY UTAH sent to investigate a series of bank robberies pulled off by a group of masked hooligans called “The DEAD PRESIDENTS”.
With his clever and deep investigation tactics, Jonny infiltrates the California surfing lifestyle and nails his prime suspect to ‘BODHI”, the leader of the surfer crew played by the magnificent PATRICK SWAYZE.
It’s an ADRENALINE RUSH from start to finish!
A brisk and effectively well written script keep this thriller moving forward! A well deserved nod goes to GARY BUSEY, as the always timely sidekick Pappas.
It also stars the electrifying chick from Tank Girl as Jonny’s love interest and surfing instructor.
Never has a movie had a more honest portrayal of bank robbing surfers chasing their addiction to thrills and living on the edge (via Aerosmith).
It’s as emotionally touching and uplifting as it is compelling and frank.
Point Break is simply and truly a classic of Epic grandeur and a landmark in American film.
HOWARD THE DUCK is one of those movies you have to see to believe.
It’s a timeless classic that has stood out to me as essential viewing to anyone who appreciates excellence and creativity in film.
Encounter a movie truly as OUT OF THIS WORLD as its main character! With a top notch cast, supporting an equally impressive script that shatters all expectations you’ve had about a duck starring in his own movie (who’s not a cartoon) HOWARD THE DUCK truly delivers!
NOT Howard the Duck
Never before have I felt such a compelling CONNECTION with a furry protagonist.
It’s got ACTION!
SONG AND DANCE!
and SEX APPEAL
George Lucas was attached to it, and he has never ever made a BAD film…..I also admire his courage to highlight such an underrated genre in movie history. As truly essential viewing, it shines a human light on a situation rarely discussed and begs the question:
What would it be like for a duck to put on human clothes and join the rest of society?
Click the vid to watch the last 3 minutes of the movie. I think it sums everything up quite nicely.

Alright, now I realize this movie is cult classic, but I just saw it 2 days ago … 1986, Kurt Russell, violent kung-fu action, mysterious creatures, gore … WTF? Probably some of the best randomness I’ve seen in while! Anyways, if you somehow missed this back in the 80s, put it on your to-do list and check this dope poster by Tyler Stout in the meantime – there’s a ton of crazy art associated with this film, but this one is a personal favorite…
Mike Myers was one of my faves in terms of comedy!
DID YOU KNOW HE’S CANADIAN? (LIKE US)
This scene is so funny, it almost makes me forget about THE GURU 😦
But my ULTIMATE FAVE movie with Mr. Myers would have to be Wayne’s World. It’s a comedy classic! I think I’ve seen the movie 748239 times, and I can recite many of my favorite scenes, including this one.
My cousin Adrian Fluevog introduced me to this movie when I was a child, and I was forever changed. WEIRD AL WAS MY SECOND CONCERT *ROLLLLLLLING STONES as the FIRST*
